12/4/2023 0 Comments Apple wwdc stays juneThis situation obviously means that bug fixes, vulnerability patches and the like cease…and more generally, that ongoing third-party app support eventually evaporates, too. ![]() One upfront qualifier, which I’ve mentioned before but bears repeating, is that for non-macOS-based devices (smartphone, tablets, watches, etc.), once a new O/S version “goes gold”, ongoing support for the prior version ends quickly (in many cases, immediately). ![]() Since last year was a notable “bloodbath” in terms of how many devices (particularly Intel x86 CPU-based computers) were victims of “ obsolescence by design”, I thought I’d bump this topic to the top of the coverage list. Unfortunately, however, at least some of the information shared ends up being a “downer” for existing owners of Apple gear: not only do company officials detail what new hardware will be first-time supported, they also note (or at least subsequently document) what legacy hardware will see its ongoing support dropped. and the latest, visionOS for its upcoming extended-reality headset (more on that in a bit)Īre a key part of what’s unveiled at WWDC each year.Although Apple seems to regularly Sherlock those same third-party developers, it’s still dependent on them for ongoing ecosystem vitality (or, at minimum, to come up with more ideas for it to inevitably copy…cynical, ain’t I?).Īs such, feature set sneak-peeks (and developer preview builds) of the next iterations of Apple’s various operating systems: WWDC is fundamentally a conference tailored for third-party developers, primarily of software (versus accessory hardware, although that’s important to Apple, too) that runs on top of the company’s O/Ss and taps into its various services.
